My first experience as a writing tutor

I must say before i was assign to a student i was freaking out because i never tutor anyone before. The only i did that i taught how to do was to dance salsa. I was really nervous to how i would teach someone to become a better writer? From all the readings that my professor had mybclass i was able to apllied those lessons i learned to when i tutor. The student that i was working with she was having trouble with developing her thesis. When i read the passage and look at her thesis i realize all she did was copy word by word from what the author said in the passage. I explained to her that she can not write word by word what the author is saying, you have to put it into your own words and expand the idea. I than ask her what she thinks the author is trying to address and she was able to explain to me that the author arguement was about how being a parent is a really job. From what the student told me she was able to write a summary about the article. At first it was hard with this student because instead of writing in her own words, she copy everythinh the aurhor wrote and she didnt fully understand the text. What i also did was made her write the main idea for each paragraph. It took time and she was able to do it in her own words finally. Even through were werent able to write a correct thesis the student left knowing how to write a summary. A summary is a good way to develop your thesis. My student just needs help understanding the text and message the author is trying to address.

James Moffet " Active Voice "

Dear Denise,

There is something that i would love to share with you that I learned in english class. I know you love to write and based on what I will tell you, you will fall in love with the information.
Whenever I am in class and a professor would ask the class to do a free write  that gives us the students time to actually jot down everything at comes up in our minds. Whenever we do a free write we arent thinking about our spelling  or any type of errors. Our minds is just rushing with so many ideas that need to be jotted down on paper. Whenever I see you writing your hand is non-stop moving. I learned that our minds have an "on-going consciousness" as James Moffeet explains. James Moffeet is always emphasizing ideas for classroom practice such  as free writing. Every second of the day our minds are thinking about everything that goes on around us. Our mind is a stream of thought that never really goes away. Both talking and writing may be usually a revision of our inner speech. Meaning our inner speech is us talking to yourself and orangizing your thoughts. Based on when you free write you are able to realize  how much you can write based on your thoughts in your head. Lets say you have to write a paper, if you just freewrite about what you know about that topic you pretty much you get a paper fulled up with ideas. Our minds carry millions of thoughts everyday. Free writing does the body good and its a good exercise for the brain. From the activiy "stream of consciousness" Moffeet explains how we have to write for 15mins anything that comes in mind. I think that this excerise really helps our mind work really well. Free writing tells you what you know.  Writing down what you know  free write may be  helping you sort out your thoughts and tell you what you know, and what you need to know in order to move forward in the next step of your paper. Another thing about this activity that I realize that it does is that  Free writing gets your ideas  going and gets the writing  process to fllow along. As your free writing your mind is getting all these ideas out. It really helps you as a writer. I think free writing is a great tool to use in our  daily use. I hope you enjoy the information that I shared with you and I hope you continue to write!

Your friend,
 Mikayla

Tutoring Do's and Dont's

As a tutor for any subject you should know what your job duty is. It is your responsibility to help the student with their problems and making sure they get a better understanding. I thought being a tutor would be easy cake however it takes a lot whole lot of work. As a tutor your fear is having the student you are teaching walk out from the tutoring section not learning something.

List of Tutoring Do's & Don'ts

Do's:
1. You want to have a positive welcoming when meeting the student and BE ON TIME!
(Greet the student nicely, smile and maintain good eye contact)

2. Arrange the tutoring area( clean area)
Have the student to be comfortable
Have student to be focused

3.Be positive and encouraging with the student

4.Make sure student understands the assignment

5.  As a tutor you need to keep in mind that not all students learn the same
way or at the same pace.

Don'ts

1. arriving late
2. Becoming friends with the student ( asking personal questions during the tutoring section)
3. Doing the work for the student. ( its not your ideas)
4. Being rude to the student you are working with.

Sondra Perl Response

"When writers given a topic, the topic itself evokes a felt sense in them"(3)
I agree with this quote because as a writer my myself writing just comes naturally. Whenever I am just writing for the fun of it I am not thinking my body have like a rush feeling inside. I feel good about myself and I know my writing will be a great master piece.  My body has a energy boost whenever I write about a topic that I really like. When I have to write a paper  that I do not want to write, I do not get the same feeling that I would get if I am just writing for the fun. My body get stress out and I want to do whatever it takes to get the paper done. This quote evolves to everything that someone  has a passion for. If you do not have a passion for something you would see how your body acts different. If you do not have a passion for something you will not enjoy it. But if you do enjoy it you and your body feel great.
